IQNA – An Iranian cleric, in a letter to Pope Leo XIV, highlighted the need for religious leaders to break their silence on the crimes that the Zionist regime is committing.

Seyed Abolhassan Navab and Pope Leo XIV

In his letter, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Abolhassan Navab, said the Israeli regime, backed by the US and some other Western countries, has been violating all international rules and its latest crime launched an aggression against Iran.

Following is the cleric’s letter to the leader of the Catholic Church:

“His Holiness Pope Leo XIV

Leader of the Worldwide Catholic Church

Your Excellency,

Your support for the oppressed people of Gaza is worthy of recognition and praise. You have repeatedly spoken about a world plagued by war, violence, and injustice, expressing your deep concern over these issues. As a prominent academic institution in the Islamic Republic of Iran dedicated to fostering friendly relations among followers of different faiths, we wish to inform you that our country, as you rightly believe, sees the world in need of genuine and lasting peace. The Islamic Republic of Iran, guided by the teachings of the Quran and the traditions of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH), strives to establish peace, justice, and peaceful coexistence.

However, these days, the entire world is witnessing how innocent citizens of our country—while their officials were engaged in negotiations to demonstrate goodwill—endure the most horrific crimes. The occupying Israeli regime, backed by the United States and certain other Western governments, has violated all international laws and, under the silence of global institutions, launched an aggression against Iran, martyring senior military commanders and ordinary civilians. Despite its utmost restraint, the Islamic Republic of Iran is compelled to defend its people and hold the aggressors accountable for their actions.

The Islamic Republic is fully capable of defending itself and places its trust in Almighty God. Yet, as an academic institution, we expect freedom-loving people worldwide, as well as religious leaders, to break their silence in the face of Israel’s crimes and pressure international organizations to fulfill their duties.

We pray to the Almighty to grant victory to the oppressed, honor them, and humiliate the oppressors.

Seyed Abolhassan Navab

Founder of the University of Religions and Denominations”
